Understanding the Timeline
The timeline visualization provides a Gantt chart view of study milestones and progress. This guide explains how to read and use it.
Required Role
Timeline access requires Metrics dashboard access.
Timeline Components
Gantt Chart
The main timeline displays:
- Horizontal bars - Each study's workflow duration
- Vertical axis - List of studies
- Horizontal axis - Time scale (dates)
- Milestone markers - Individual step completions
Study Rows
Each study appears as a row showing:
- Study identifier
- Workflow bars for each assigned process
- Milestone dates within each workflow
Reading the Timeline
Timeline Bars
Bars represent workflow progress:

|---|---|
| Bar start | When the workflow began |
| Bar end | Target or actual completion |
| Bar color | Status or workflow type |
| Bar length | Duration of the process |
Milestones
Individual steps appear as markers:
- Completed - Steps with dates filled in
- Pending - Steps not yet completed
- Skipped - Steps marked as not applicable

Hover
Hover over elements to see details:
- Study information
- Milestone names and dates
- Progress percentages
Click
Click to drill down:
- Open study details
- View specific milestone information
Zoom/Pan
Navigate the timeline:
- Zoom in/out to adjust time scale
- Pan left/right to view different date ranges

- Filter by status, team, or date range
- Compare multiple studies visually
Individual Study Timeline
When viewing a single study:
- Detailed view of that study's workflows
- All milestones visible
- Progress tracking

Progress Calculation
The timeline reflects progress based on:
- Completed steps / Total steps
- Visual representation of completion percentage
Status Colors
Colors typically indicate:
- Green - Completed or on track
- Yellow - In progress or at risk
- Red - Overdue or behind
- Gray - Not started or pending
