Managing Follow-ups

Follow-ups are personal reminders you set on study notes. They help you remember to check back on items that need attention.

What Are Follow-ups?

Follow-ups are:

  • Personal - Only you see your follow-ups
  • Date-based - Tied to specific dates
  • Note-linked - Connected to specific notes in studies
  • Action reminders - Prompt you to take action or check status

Viewing Follow-ups

The Follow-ups section is in the right panel of your Inbox. Follow-ups are organized by date:

Past Follow-ups

  • Dates that have already passed
  • Items that may need immediate attention
  • Show with past date indicator

Today's Follow-ups

  • Follow-ups scheduled for today
  • Highlighted for immediate visibility
  • Your priority items for the day

Upcoming Follow-ups

  • Future dated follow-ups
  • Organized chronologically
  • Plan ahead for what's coming

Understanding a Follow-up

Each follow-up displays:

DateThe follow-up date
Note excerptPreview of the linked note
AuthorWho wrote the original note

Opening a Follow-up

To see the full note and study:

  1. Click anywhere on the follow-up row
  2. The study opens in an overlay panel
  3. You're taken to the relevant note
  4. Review the note and take any needed action

Grouping Follow-ups by Study

Similar to mentions, you can group follow-ups:

  1. Click Group by Study in the Follow-ups header
  2. Follow-ups are organized under study headings
  3. Helps when you have multiple follow-ups for the same study

Creating Follow-ups

Follow-ups are created while working with notes:

  1. Open a study
  2. Find a note you want to follow up on
  3. Use the follow-up feature on that note
  4. Select a date for the follow-up
  5. The follow-up appears in your Inbox on that date

See Working with Notes for details on adding follow-ups.

Removing Follow-ups

To remove a follow-up you no longer need:

  1. Click to open the study and note
  2. Navigate to the note's follow-up section
  3. Remove the follow-up date
  4. Save changes
  5. The follow-up no longer appears in your Inbox

Or dismiss directly from the Inbox (if the feature is available).

Multiple Follow-ups

You can have multiple follow-ups on the same note:

  • Set different dates for different check-in points
  • Each date creates a separate Inbox entry
  • Useful for tracking long-running items

Empty State

When you have no follow-ups:

  • A message indicates you have no follow-ups scheduled
  • Start creating follow-ups on notes that need future attention

Use Cases for Follow-ups

Status Checks

  • Set a follow-up to check on pending approvals
  • Remind yourself to verify a task was completed

Deadlines

  • Follow up before important milestone dates
  • Get reminded when action windows are closing

Periodic Reviews

  • Schedule regular check-ins on active studies
  • Ensure nothing falls through the cracks

Waiting on Others

  • Follow up after requesting action from someone
  • Check back on delegated tasks

Best Practices

  • Be specific with dates - Choose dates when action can actually be taken
  • Don't over-schedule - Too many follow-ups become noise
  • Review past items - Address overdue follow-ups first
  • Clear completed items - Remove follow-ups you've addressed
  • Use with notes - Add context in the note about what you're following up on
